Day 5
We departed at 8am the next morning to begin the 11 mile trek out where I will be staying in a hotel, and getting a hot shower in a city called Nanyuki that's located on the equator. The Sirimon route was so beautiful and offered unobstructed views of the tallest peak of Mt Kenya: Batian (5199m/17057ft) and Nelion(5188m/17021ft). Maybe, just maybe when I'm much faster and more acclimated, I can try Baitian in a few years.
It's hard to believe that the climb was just yesterday. I arrived to Kenya as a stranger and a stranger no more.
As I reflected on the past five days. I'm grateful for the opportunity to have the incredible experiences with locals and now lifelong friends.
Arriving at Moses camp, our ending point of the trek, chef David prepared some bomb guacamole and ramen just as he did on the first day, additionally my favorite breakfast - an egg veggie omelette. A full circle. My heart is full.
