Mount Shuksan
It’s the weekend of June 16 - We picked up a rental car on Friday morning and headed to Mt Shuksan after stopping at Winco for some bulk food items and picking up the permit. Chris carried the rope and group climbing gear, Chelle carried the stove and fuel, and I carried the shelter. We wanted to go up via Fisher Chimney’s route, which I read is a bit of a more advance route that requires glacier travel, steep snow/ice terrain, rock scrambling, and route-finding. We left the parking lot Friday afternoon in the misting rain. I was in the company of a team of climbers more experienced than me. We’ll make the best of it!
After gaining about 1700 ft in 5 miles in not so great conditions, it was time to set up our camp as rain came pouring down. I enjoyed some sushi and saved the rest for the morning. The three of us slept tightly next to each other in close quarters. I was cold and didn’t get a good night rest laying on a sloped surface on the snow.
The next day, we left camp at 4:30am and traveled to high camp via class 2-4 terrain in the Chimneys and set up camp right below Winnie's Slide. I had enough fun from the combination of both days and just wanted to catch up on sleep at high camp.
