Prusik Peak
The Enchantment Lakes are an alpine wonderland of pristine lakes set among polished granite, soaring peaks, blazing larches, and ambling mountain goats. Located 15 miles away from Leavenworth, Washington (Bavarian themed town). Leavenworth is about 2.5 hours away from Seattle. There is a lottery system for the permits, and the permit quota for the.Core Enchantments Zone is: 24 people per day. 16 visitor spaces are available through the advanced lottery, while the remaining eight spaces are available through the walk-in lottery. We got super lucky and received a walk up permit!
The goats are super chill and non threatening. I think they really like the salt from human pee…
Day 1: Snow Lake Trailhead
10 miles/ 6100ft+ to camp at 7000ft
We climbed the West Ridge of Prusik Peak, a classic 5.7 trad route of 4 pitches. We experienced a bit of hail on the ascent and descent. This Washington weather is def not something I’m used to! The descent had a bit of spiciness to it that I had to overcome. I didn’t feel that I climbed that well especially at the end, but it’s ok. Just need to get more time on the rocks 🙂
Prusik peak is often the iconic photographic image of the Enchantments. The name honors Dr. Karl Prusik (1896–1961) who was an Austrian mountaineer, and is known as the inventor of the prusik, a rope knot which happened to be used to gain access to the summit horn during the first ascent by Fred Beckey in 1948.
